Flowers are appropriate for most faiths who engage in a viewing at a church or funeral home whether there is an open or closed casket. Please review the religious guidelines on this site for assistance if you are in doubt.

The most common floral arrangement for a funeral visitation is a casket spray to be displayed on the lower portion of an open casket or centered when the casket is closed. This arrangement is usually sent by the immediate family.

Other typical floral selections from family members include standing sprays or baskets on either side of the casket. If including young children as the senders, many times a pillow of flowers or garland is nice. Many Catholics like to include a rosary of roses. It is not necessary to have all of the different floral arrangements. Flowers are expensive, and can put a serious dent in a budget.  Remember that friends may also send flowers. Flowers do add  beauty to the occasion and some type of arrangement should be considered for the funeral home or church when it is appropriate according to the deceased’s religious affiliations or stated preferences.
